A new way to watch a short film! The temporary urban intervention in Portugal was intended to bring the city together through viewing a series of short films created by local artists. When the structure is fully utilized, the form resembles that of a centipede–a name that stuck, the Centipede Cinema. With three miniature pop-up cinemas and room for 16 people, the Centipede Cinema is a unique and obviously curious structure that would attract any passerby.

Conceptualized and designed by the Bartlett School of Architecture in Britain, the  simple design is colorful and utilizes a plentiful local resource; cork. The lightness of the cork allows for a simplistic and light steel structural frame but is also used to help with acoustics and light. The cladding of the structure is a lighter colored cork where as the interior cork is dark to help reduce light penetration and reflectivity.

The creation of large amounts of housing, similar in number to those required after the war, forces us to confront this problem seriously, not as an issue only of numbers and volume, but as a representation of social priorities and civic pride. Providing fast trains and new airports might be essential, but taking care of our built world, providing good homes and shaping the meaningful physical environment that nurtures communities must be just as important for the soul and spirit of the nation.
The chancellor’s plan for Ebbsfleet may well make good commercial and practical sense, but if we do not take such opportunities to lead with ideas and a vision of how to create community, then we will have squandered the chance to show that there are other considerations when building housing beyond commercial pressures or political expediency. Tirana, 10 cose da fare nella capitale dell’Albania

L’Albania è probabilmente uno dei Paesi meno conosciuti dai viaggiatori e dai turisti. E questo per me è un ottimo motivo per andare a vederlo, a partire dalla sua capitale. Ecco le 10 cose che ho trovato più interessanti per scoprire e capire un po’ di più il passato e il presente di Tirana e provare a immaginare il futuro della capitale dell’Albania.

1. Ripercorrere la storia a Piazza Scanderbeg

In mezzo c’è la grande statua dedicata a Scanderbeg, l’eroe albanese che sconfisse gli Ottomani, ma fino al 1991 – quando venne abbattuta dalla folla dopo il crollo del regime – ad affiancarla c’era anche il monumento al dittatore Enver Hoxha, che segnò pesantemente per decenni il destino dell’Albania. Catania_Ritmo CulturaIndipendente e Pupa Guè

Marco Mangione, in arte Guè, è il fiore all’occhiello della scena “graffitara” catanese. Non solo il suo talento artistico, ma anche il suo impegno sociale per la sua città gli rendono onore: Guè insegna Urban Art alla scuola Dante Alighieri e gestisce insieme ad altri amici il centro culturale Ritmo, in Via Grotte Bianche a Catania. Marco e la sua crew stanno recentemente svilupparndo una serie di progetti che riguarderanno la rigenerazione urbana di Catania, tramite l’invito di diversi artisti nazionali ed internazionali, per interventi in grandi muri della città.
