Luzinterruptus: una flotta di promesse incompiute – News – Domus.

Il 12 Ottobre la città di Madrid si è preparata per la festa nazionale spagnola: i politici hanno riempito la città di coccarde e parate, noncuranti dei dispendi economici, per occultare per un giorno la crisi economica dilagante; la stampa dal canto suo ha censurato le manifestazioni popolari che esprimevano i malcontenti e le speranze lacerate dei cittadini. Il collettivo Luzinterruptus ha voluto contribuire in maniera simbolica e inconsueta con l’obiettivo di non lasciar traccia a discapito dei festeggiamenti così attesi. Per il loro intervento, intitolato “Flotta di promesse incompiute”, il gruppo di giovani artisti spagnoli ha lasciato scorrere 214 barchette illuminate alla mercè della corrente creata dall’acqua insaponata versata con 20 secchi per le pulizie verso i tombini delle strade del loro quartiere. Le piccole barchette sono state costruite con la carta che costituiva il programma elettorale del governo attuale intitolato “Ciò di cui la Spagna ha bisogno”, all’interno del quale erano state individuate cento belle promesse che non sono mai state compiute. Il piccolo esercito navale è finito per essere convertito in una semplice metafora — di carta bagnata e illeggibile — che è stata raccolta e buttata nei contenitori per la carta, una volta terminata l’installazione.

The demolition of existing buildings within the historical center of Madrid generates interesting vacant lots defined by the vertical surfaces of the walls of the neighboring buildings and by the horizontal surface of the liberated plot.

After the demolition of the existing building, the adjacent walls are normally covered by a sprayed polyurethane foam layer that works temporary as a provisional facade protecting thermically and against humidity the adjacent buildings. This layer in order to protect the polyurethane against the ultraviolet rays.

The horizontal plane of the plot remains normally empty during a long period of time, becoming the perfect place for wild vegetables species to grow spontaneously.

Te combination of the spatiality of the vacant plot, the intense coloration of the adjacent walls and the possible covering with a vegetables layer of the plot, provide these spaces with a huge artistic and expressive potential.

The proposal “monochrome” of the achitects casanova+hernandez consist of the interventation over specific selected plots of the historical center of Madrid which adjacent walls are colored and protected. Each urban vacant plot will be defined by one, two or three vertical planes and by the horizontal plane of the floor, depending on its urban position (on a corner, between two existing buildings, etc..) …

The proposal “monochrome” consists of a strategy of integrated in the urban tissue interventions, based on funcional principles, of low cost and low maintenance, but of huge artistic impact.

This project reminds me of the movie of 2011 “Medianeras” (Sidewalls), a very nice movie about life inside walls and in between buildings :)
